Fair Use in US Copyright Law

Time: 4:00 – 7:00 pm
This month’s seminar speakers will be David McIntosh, a Partner at Ropes & Gray with 14 years of experience advising institutions, investors and companies of all sizes in all manner of intellectual property-related matters, and Nate Kurtis, an Associate at Ropes & Gray with experience in engineering, technology and the arts.
Their presentation will cover:
- Background fundamentals in U.S. Copyright Law.
- Fair use in the U.S., with specific focus on fair use in academic and entrepreneurial contexts.
- A brief discussion on the use of, and requirments with respect to, open source software.
The seminar will be followed by cocktails and networking from 5:00-7:00pm at Ballard's Restaurant in downtown Durham courtesy of seminar sponsors Devine Millimet, Pierce Atwood, Ropes & Gray, and Salient Surgical Technologies. This event is free and open to the public.

The Innovation Catalyst Seminar Series, hosted monthly, will discuss relevant issues related to commercializing UNH's innovations, including current and emerging best practices on campus.
The Seminar is open to all and designed to be a meeting place for innovators, entrepreneurs, service providers, and anyone else interested in how the university innovations of today represent the information and opportunities of tomorrow.
